What is Thoracotomy Pain?
Thoracotomy pain is the persistent or severe discomfort that occurs following a surgical opening of the chest wall (thoracotomy). It is often categorized as either acute postoperative pain or chronic post thoracotomy pain syndrome (PTPS), which can persist for months or years due to nerve damage, muscle trauma, or inflammation of the intercostal nerves during the surgical procedure.
